Mice

Mice are small rodents that mainly live with humans, causing damage to stored food, housing structure, electrical wiring, and furniture. They can grow to between 75 and 100mm in length and they vary in colour from white to grey and light brown to black.

How the work is undertaken: Rodent baiting is carried out in areas where they are active. Any baits required around the house are in lockable rodent bait stations (pet and child friendly). Baiting leaves no secondary poisoning.

Why are they considered a pest?
They are unsanitary and their droppings have been implicated as potential asthma triggers in children. They can multiply quickly and will do significant damage to your home and furniture through their gnawing activities. They will also contaminate food and other materials through the droppings they leave behind. Not only are mice destructive, but they also have even been implicated in causing house fires after chewing through electrical cables.

Mice are usually found in hard-to-reach places in the home. These include roofing and ceilings and behind appliances such as fridges and washing machines. They can also be found wherever food sources are, so wardrobes and pantries are a perfect location for them.

Typical signs of an infestation?

Scratching noises – in the walls or ceilings as mice scurry around.
Droppings – mice leave small, dark droppings particularly along walls, in cupboards or under sinks.
Distinctive smell – mice leave an ammonia-like smell that will be particularly strong in more enclosed areas such as under cupboards.
Damage – mice have teeth that grow continuously and will gnaw on wood, plastic, cables, and other hard materials to keep their teeth shorter.
Nests – mice build nests with shredded material such as newspaper and fabrics. These will tend to be in hidden places such as behind fridges. Nests will often contain young mice.
